Al "Bubba" Baker played defensive end for the Cleveland Browns in 1987 and 1989-1990. Thank goodness that his restaurant/catering business hung around a bit longer. He opened back in 1993 and called it Bubba's Q.

Bubba's Q is one of the best places to enjoy a top notch barbeque in all of Northeast Ohio. All we need to do is find our way to the charming city of Avon, Ohio. Baker has turned his passion for cooking into a very successful venture and even sells a variety of his world famous sauces and dry rubs for your at home eating pleasure. Al Baker will tell you straight up that, "the key to great tasting authentic southern bar-b-q is patience, dry rubbing, slow smoking and the spices you put in the sauce." Bubba's Q has become known as "The Home of the De-boned Baby Back Ribs."

We asked one patron who said:

"Gosh damn, it's BBQ heaven up in here. It's as good as buying a Traeger Grill at JustGreatSteaks and having your Mama cook it for you. Good classic home cookin' is what I'm telling ya."

The restaurant is located at 820 Center Rd, Avon Ohio 44011,and their phone number is 440-937-7859.They are located on Center Rd(Rte 83) north in Avon, Ohio. If you went over the railroad tracks, you've just passed up Bubba's Q.

There are two things about Bubba's Q that I do not like. One is knowing which of his enticing world famous sauces to get and that they are closed on Mondays. But Mr. Baker and his hard working staff certainly earn their time off. They are open from Tuesdays to Thursdays from 1130am to 900pm, Fridays from 1130am to 1000pm, Saturday from 1200 noon to 1000pm and Sunday from 1200 noon to 800pm. There is parking convenient and available in front of the restaurant.

He's turned a former feed store for local farmers into Northeast Ohio's best bar-b-q place. You do get a great value for the money. The menu is diverse. The appetizers range in price from $4.99 to $13.99. The Bubba's Q Sampler is the $13.99 bench warmer(appetizer). You get ribs, pulled pork, smoked brisket (the best there is), fries and chili. The price seems a bit high, but it is plenty filling. His sandwiches range in price from $6.60 to $7.99. They come with a pickle and french fries. The Coaches Platter is between $8.99 and $18.99. Choices are smoked chicken, baby back ribs and St. Louis ribs. French fries and Cole slaw are served with each platter.

If you love beef, then on the weekends only, they serve up a heart 12 ounce Prime Rib, succulent slow roasted and served with Au jus. This is priced at a worth every cent price of $14.99. No entrees here, instead The All American Team. These are priced from $8.99 to $29.99. The scrumptious 14 ounce Rib Eye steak is new and rings up at $16.99. All Team servings include your choice of two sides. The children's menu is priced from $2.99 to $6.99 and is for 12 and under.

An Internet site known as Chef Moz dining Guide says, "I had a Delmonico steak that was out of this world and cooked to "rare" perfection." "The food, service, and atmosphere were to perfection. I have been telling everyone I know that it is the best rib place ever! I ordered the prime rib and it was like cutting butter. My husband had a half-stack of ribs and they were very meaty and very filling! And believe me; if HE liked them, they were good! You have to try it!" I believe! Al Baker has managed to do what a successful restaurant owner needs to do. He has a passion for cooking, selects the best ingredients, gives great service and serves hearty portions of cooked to perfection foods.

"Bubba" Baker also puts out a catering menu and service that will bowl you over, just like he bull rushed all those offensive linemen back in the day. Known simply as Bubba's Q World Famous Bar-B-Q and Catering, Baker offers everything that he makes for daily guests and will do a whole pig! You can request that he cooks on site for an additional fee. The catering guru allows a choice between the Classic Buffet, Fine Cuisine, Barbecue or Appetizer menus. The diet conscious folks need to look the other way. All their meats are dry rubbed and slow smoked , using only Ohio grown apple wood. The meats will be a tender and juicy delicacy that you will not soon forget. Of course, your choices of Baker's award winning sauces are the clincher.

This can be the winning score for your summer get together. You can be the envy of your neighborhood with the smells driving everyone crazy. Or...here's a crazy thought. Why not start a new summertime tradition and arrange a block party with all of your neighbors. Everyone pays their own way and all chip in for an on site prep cook. The food is awesome and portions are big enough to feed a NFL lineman. Just ask Mr. Al, "Bubba" Baker!
